Download LobstackA daily or weekly look at signups, revenue, spend, traffic or errors, or someone asks why a number looks off.
Pull the series for the period and the same span before it, from the table, database or file the person named. Say the source and the range.
Work out the usual range from the earlier span (median and spread), and flag values outside it. Run the arithmetic; do not estimate it.
For each flag, look for the plain cause first: a missing day, a changed definition, a holiday, one large customer, a release on that date.
Report the moves that are real, biggest first, each with the number, the usual range and the likely cause, marked as checked or as a guess.
Say what you did not check.
A chart helps only if it shows the usual range. Flat is a finding too.
